Haydon" 17th June 1878, written in black and red ink. Within a well-drawn ink border of rushes above a trout and fishing basket. Angling bookplate to paste down of J. Hammick . Original green cloth binding with title and fish vignette in gilt to the upper cover within a background of black blind stamped rushes and mayflies, within surrounded by a black lines border with lily pads and fish decorations, gilt title to spine with 2 gilt mayflies. Rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and outer corners no splits or damage often found with this title. A bright copy in the original state of a beautifully produced book. "Printed from an old ms. never before published, the original spelling and language being retained, with editorial notes and patterns of flies, and samples of the materials for making each fly. By W.H. Aldam", this is the first book to use actual fly-tying materials and flies; it is said approx. 220 copies were produced. Early editions are quite scarce although there is no publisher listed it was Curtis & Harvey. Riling 1196 gives the first as 1887 and believes this title is an earlier edition of Notes On Shooting by an Expert published by Curtis's and Harvey Ltd. which is much more common than the earlier title. The book details the use of powder and shot, best shot sizes, black powder pressures, influence of wads etc.

There are 30+ subjects covered from care of arms, aiming, wind direction, firing instructions, firing positions etc., judging distance etc., followed by a list of lectures, many pages have diagrams etc., also names of lecturers. A soldiers working notebook just prior to the outbreak of WWI at the Southern Command School of Musketry. there is no immediate way of identifying the owner only what is left of the paper label on the front cover "Sec Lt A Ba..." removal of the label or further research may identify the owner.

85 pages, privately printed, 4to., Printed by the Chief of Staff of HM Mediterranean Fleet for officers of the fleet, notes on the various game available, how and where to find it, the areas covered are Western Mediterranean, Adriatic and West Coast of Greece, the Aegean Eastern Mediterranean Sea of Marmora and Black Sea. The notes cover small game and big game including Ibex, wild pig, wild goats etc. partridge, quail, dove, the areas giving notes on town, station, game likely to be encountered, comments and what bags made or have been obtained i.e. Kavala "In September the local people organised a pig drive at which one pig was killed, no information as to whether it is any good to cook. Imbros "Best day 195 partridges and 15 various for 8 guns in the Valley of the Ridge. First published Circa 1926, this copy with circular stamp for the Commanding Officer HMS London 6 February 1930, note written beneath "compedia dated 7 Feb 1930 inserted". This appears to be pre publication for a revised edition with typed sheets or slips placed between relevant pages i.e. "page 15 cancel present notes and substitute" then follows a typed page in this case detailing licences, big game, pigsticking, similar inserts throughout, occasional ink notes to text, cloth index tabs to some pages. Retained in the original cloth backed paper covered boards, title to upper board, some surface rubbing. A rare item 1 copy listed on COPAC 1926 edition giving Malta as the place of publication.
