Some very occasional spotting to contents and closed page edge. Very occasional pencil notes to margins relating to the book. Paper title label to upper board and spine, the spine label chipped and cracked, some even darkening to the cloth. A purpose made cloth covered slipcase present. One of the rarest of big game hunting titles, this as privately printed by George L.Harrison in an edition of 250 copies for distribution to noteworthy African sportsmen and other luminaries. Harrison who was on Safari in Rhodesia in 1908 not only hunted with Finaughtys son, but later met the author and was given a set of the Rhodesian Journal which had serialized the elder Finaughtys recollections. From these, Harrison published the work less one chapter from an issue missing from his set. William Finaughty entered Matabeleland and Mashonaland in the 1860s, the "elephants practically did not know what a gun shot was".
