Original full calf boards with later matching spine with original title label. The scarce 1st edition taken from the French of Magne de Marolles 1781, containing the various methods of forging, boring, and dressing gun barrels practiced in France, Spain and England and the different proofs of barrels employed in those countries, with remarks. 1892.  5th.  67 pages 4 pages of adverts 1 being coloured for Curtis and Harvey Medium Ground Gunpowder Canister/ also a b/w illustrated advert for The Improved Cartridge Warmer, sone foxing to the contents. Publishers printed orange card covers title in black to the upper cover showing wear to the head and tail of the spine the covers remain tight. Early editions are quite scarce although there is no publisher listed it was Curtis & Harvey. Riling 1196 gives the first as 1887 and believes this title is an earlier edition of Notes On Shooting by an Expert published by Curtis's and Harvey Ltd. which is much more common than the earlier title. The book details the use of powder and shot, best shot sizes, black powder pressures, influence of wads etc. [23033]

1913.  School Of Musketry.  Hayling Island.  approx. 28cm x 23cm. 76 page manuscript, bound in contemporary green cloth, metal hinged folder, cloth dust soiled, old paper label torn with loss some writing visible. The title and date taken front the front cover. The manuscript on ruled paper written in ink in a legible hand, the first page index dust soiled and pulled from the text block, also some dust soiling to last page. The remaining pages clean with some age browning from the index. There are 30+ subjects covered from care of arms, aiming, wind direction, firing instructions, firing positions etc., judging distance etc., followed by a list of lectures, many pages have diagrams etc., also names of lecturers. A soldiers working notebook just prior to the outbreak of WWI at the Southern Command School of Musketry. there is no immediate way of identifying the owner only what is left of the paper label on the front cover "Sec Lt A Ba..." removal of the label or further research may identify the owner.
