The Art Of Angling + The Art Of Swimming

Circa 1822 and 1820.  G Smeeton.  2 volumes bound as one. The Art Of Angling, 2nd Edn, (4) 80 pages, 12mo., engraved frontis and title page, to the top of page 80 contents in brackets 2nd Edn. The Art Of Swimming nd Circa 1820, (4) 64 pages, engraved frontis and title page, bound together in full recent tan calf, red title label "The Art Of Angling", both volumes attributed to Smeeton as the author. COPAC lists no copy of The Art Of Angling or The Art Of Swimming. Ralph Thomas's bibliography on Swimming 1904 notes both copies being sold together in 1830 at Sotheby's, although he has never seen them, he dates The Swimming as 1820, as a footnote he states "these two are well combined though The Angler is generally too much engaged in getting fish out of the water to go into it himself" Smeeton edition only contains the "The Anglers Song" at the beginning of the work and "The Rod Line And Hook" at the end according to W/S 17, this is questionable as we have handled copies published by Hodgson containing the songs.
