In 1906, Major Rayne was assistant district superintendent of Police in Kisumu. He was asked to go north to Turkana/Turkwell and find out more about gun-running and ivory-poaching, in secret, and challenge Mohamadi-bin-abdulla, who is captured and taken to Mumias. In 1917, Rayne visits Turkana again, with 100 men of KAR (Kings African rifles) for garrison duty. After engaging with the Abyssinians at lake Rudolf. More expeditions take place against Abyssinians and Swahili raiders in Turkana near Lake Rudolf.
