iv-64pp, 10.5cm x 16.5 cm wood engraved folding map by E. Whymper before title, 3 cm closed tear to inner edger of the map. The contents clean and tight with no inscriptions light spotting to the rear blank end paper. Publishers dark red paper covered boards titled in black to the upper cover with half standing portrait of Livingstone bordered by foliage, Routledge adverts to rear. Recent paper matching spine, retaining the original endpapers. The first appearance in book form of any account of Livingstone's Travels In Africa. The preface is dated January 1857, and his Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa did not appear until November of that year.
