Original green cloth even fading to the spine, with pink paper title label to upper cover light rubbing to the head of the spine, a very good clean copy. Published anonymously when Theakston was 68. The first edition is particularly scarce a second issue appeared the same year using the same publishers with 154 pages and is often mistaken as the first. Theakston was born in Ripon and spent most of his life in the area, the book was a result of a lifetime in angling, the drawings of the natural insects in the book were drawn from nature by his daughter. "Those who have themselves contributed so little to our knowledge of our trout and grayling rivers, forget the monumental task to which Theakston and his daughter set themselves almost 200 years ago".
