Blacker worked from 54 Dean Street, Soho, London from 1842 - 1857. In 1842 he published The Art Of Angling And Complete System Of Fly Making. The book was reissued in 1843 as Blacker's Catechism Of Fly Making, this edition contained actual flies, the numbering of flies differ in some copies. The book was reissued in 1855 as Blacker's Art Of Fly Making. The plate list is part of a four-page review of the book dated April 29, 1855, referring to the recently published Art Of Fly Making. The plate list calls for 22 plates including the engraved title page; the review of the book by Bells Life In London it is noted that "the book contains no fewer than 17 engraved plates" and how "Blacker supervised the colouring of the plates to the highest standard". It has been noted that Blacker issued many of his books to order, this would account for the variations to books containing flies.
