Armorial bookplate to front paste down and to free FEP, some erratic browning and foxing to text, possibly due to the paper quality not affecting the plates. Bound in near contemporary 1/2 calf binding with some rubbing to edges and surface. The rare 1st edition 1st issue which contains the suppressed pages 214-220, which contain an account of how the Master General of the Ordnance tried to obtain Joseph Manton’s rifling invention. Neither Chute or Schwerdt had this, Schwerdt notes the plates are often missing due to this being sold as a set of prints, Chute notes the 1st edition 1st issue exceedingly rare.
