Summary: ccxxiii (5) pages, top edge gilt 4to. Limited to one hundred copies, the first edition of 1864 was limited to 40 copies. Illustrated, with woodcuts and wood engraved vignettes and illustrations by the author and others, some hand coloured. Original. Fish bookplate of Hugh Tempest Sheringham to the front paste down, some spotting to the contents mostly to first and last few pages. Original full black calf board with central blind stamp and blind stamped double ruled borders within a gilt ruled frame, later matching spine. Some rubbing to the edges and corner of the boards, gilt binders stamp of A. Reid Newcastle to lower inner edge of the rear board. With one or two exceptions t5he volume contains all the old plates and nearly as many new ones all displaying the humorous feeling and artistic skill which give Mr Crawhalls work a "place apart" among angling books. An incredibly good copy and with the provenance of the Sheringham bookplate. Westwood Satchell 70.
