Head and tail of the spine chipped rubbing and wear along the spine edge and corners, the binding remains tight. John Henry Gurney (1819-90) knew both Henry Doubleday and William Yarrell. On leaving school he entered the family banking business in Norwich. A collector from boyhood, he made great progress in forming the vast and celebrated collection of 'Raptores' in the Norwich Museum. His knowledge of birds of prey was outstanding (Mullens and Swann).
