BULLER Fred, FALKUS Hugh |
Falkus And Bullers Freshwater Fishing. A Book Of Tackles And Techniques With Some Notes On Various Fishes, Fish Recipes, Fishing Safety And Sundry Matters
1975.
1st Edn,.
Macdonald & Janes.
520 pages, 4to., colour and black and white illus from photographs and drawings. 1 of a de-luxe edition, all edges gilt in full brown morroco, signed by Buller and dated May 1975, the signature by Falkus is preceded by a presentation inscription in Falkus's hand to Eric Marshall. This copy does not have the erasure and footnote on page 441. In Classic Angling magazine No 41, an article on Buller books, by David Beazly from information provided by Fred Buller, notes this edition was not numbered "some copies possibly a quarter of the edition are signed by the authors and dated October 75, most are not". This corresponds to copies we have handled in the past. The May date is that quoted for the author's edition of a limitation of 25, this copy does not stipulate a limitation number, possibly this is a pre publication copy before the mistake on page 441 was noticed.

Dame Juliana: The Angling Treatise And Its Mysteries
2001.
1st Edn,.
Fly Fishers Classic Library.
Mortonhampstead, Devon.
x -213 pages, AEG, illustrated in colour and black and white from photographs line drawings and colour plates by Denys Ovenden. A fine copy in similar slipcase of the specially bound edition limited to 100 copies this copy number 81 signed and numbered by Fred Buller. Finely bound in a full dark red morroco, all edges gilt in matching slipcase. Buller and Falkus spent many years researching the original text, exploring the evidence for and against the various opinions. After rendering the text into modern English, they explored the evidence for and against the various opinions of the book's origins. Broadly favouring the traditional interpretations, they found fascinating reasons for accepting that it could have been written by "The Dame" at Sopwell, near the City of St. Albans. All of this has now been put together by Fred Buller, with help from Jack Heddon, Malcolm Greenhalgh, David Beazley, Professor Stephen Downes and Denys Ovenden.
