VII 495 pages, 10+pp adverts, AEG, full page illustrated "Portraits of dog of the day", some spotting to contents, original cloth, ornate gilt front board showing dogs within decorative gilt frame, title in white, gilt dog vignette to spine. The contents are divided into 3 divisions, (1) Dogs Used In Field Sports (2) Dogs Useful To man In Other Work Than Field Sport (3) House And Toy Dogs. The terriers appear in division 2 as vermin killers. The 1st edition appeared in 1881, this edition is dated from the adverts at the end. A vg copy of a useful title in an attractive binding.
