The book covers Part I South African War 1899 - 1902, Part II Malta 1903 To the Outbreak Of War 1914, Part III First World War To The Victory Camp 1914 - 1919, Part IV Scouting. Taken from his diary Crum recounts in Part III his 1st World War experiences and his sniping experiences "It was in Sanctuary Wood in July that I first made my debut as a sniping enthusiast" Crum was an ardent supporter of the use of sniping, he was also a supporter of Baden Powell and the scout movement and much of the book covers his continual support of scouting.
