Hanhart after J. M. Bernatz, from sketches by Barth, 15 steel-engraved hand-coloured maps engraved by Edward Weller and drawn by A. Peterman after Barth, 1 folding wood-engraved diagram, numerous wood-engraved illustrations, and tables in text. Some browning and chipping to the blank outer margin touching the ruled border in places of the large folding map in vol 2. Professional repair to small part of folding map in vol 3. Armorial bookplate of "The Oxford and Cambridge University Club Library" to front paste downs with single circular stamp to title pages no other marks. Some even age browning to contents. Bound in a contemporary ? dark green morroco some rubbing to spine edges. The first 3 volumes were printed in 1857 and the last two in 1858, the first English edition.
