Summary: large 8vo., viii(i) 171 pages + advert leaf, 28 fine hand coloured lithograph plates, includes 2 plates of implements, contemporary ownership signature of A.E.Knox Petersfield to top blank margin of title page, also signature of Helen Fletcher, Dale Park, Arundel to upper margin of 1/2 title. Small photograph 6.5cm x 4cm of Knox carrying a large salmon over his shoulder dated 1868 and 43lb on the image with manuscript initials A.E.K. below plus a letter tipped onto FEP to Knox from Prince Edward Saxe Weimer dated 9th May 1877 on headed paper enquiring after his health, fishing and mutual friend the Duke of Richmond. Knox an angling author wrote Autumns On The Spey, publishers green gilt pictorial cloth with gilt vignette to upper board of a falconer carrying 4 falcons on a cadge, small paper label below for Helen Fletcher. the contents clean and the plates free of foxing. the binding clean and bright with no splits, overall a vg+ copy of what Harting describes as "The best modern book in English on the art and practice of falconry". the second edition is to be preferred for the emanations and additions to the text.
