Author: CREALOCK Col Henry Hope

Title: Among The Red Deer Sketches from Nature in the Forest

Price: £1150.00

Year: 1870

Edition: 1st Edn,

Publisher: George Hogarth Turner

Summary: A folio of 28 loose card sheets with 80 tipped in plates from photographs of sketches by Crealock, each with a descriptive paper title tipped on below. Some are full-page overs multiple illustrations per page. Publishers' cloth portfolio, with printed title and pasted-on photographic illustration to upper cover showing some dust soiling and wear. Re backed with a matching cloth spine. Also included is a 21-page 8vo printed card covered booklet which describes the images in detail, also noting that they could be purchased individually, priced between 6d. and 7s. each or "Albums Made To Order". There is no sign of limitation, but presumably copies were printed in small numbers for the author. An advertisement for the publisher states that he would undertake the publication of "sketches and drawings by tourists and amateurs". The photographic plates in Among the Red Deer reproduce original drawings made by Crealock during a stalking expedition he had undertaken through the Scottish Highlands in the company of the chief of the Clan Cameron Lochiel. A rare stalking title more so with the accompanying booklet and in very good condition.
