Summary: xx 524 pages, 32 pub adverts, upwards of 50 full page illus by Swecker and Durand + folding map. The plate list calls for a map of Albert N'Yanza which is not present, or ever bound in. In the 1st edition the folding map has a title "Map of the Route and The Albert N'Yanza". The map in this edition although covers the same as in the 1st is re-titled the Routes in 1871-73. The publishers adverts for the book at the end notes illus and map, other copies examined do not have the map. A vg+ copy in the publisher's cloth, the cloth is clean and bright. Baker trained and led a force to crush the slave trade, much of the book involves travel and the military exploits but there are several references to hunting. The author bagged a pair of elephants by using rockets and the company's fieldpiece. Czech 11
