Summary:
unpaginated, AEG, vignette, title and 39 tinted lithograph plates by the author, each plate with accompanying text, inner blank margin old glue marking extending along 2/3 of page length and 1/2" deep. Plates are clean and free of foxing, recased in the original orange cloth with gilt decorations to upper board, some dust soiling and light rubbing to edges. I assume this to be the true 1st edition, the British Library gives no date and COPAC varies from 1858-1860, Abbey 487 give (1860), Czech 1860, all quote the publishers as Day and Son, this copy is John B Day lithographer. World cat lists 3 copies with John Day as the publisher 1859. A famous title and often reprinted, among the numerous plates of British Life in India there are illus of tiger shooting and pig sticking.
