108 pages, 12mo., AEG, engraved frontis of an angler landing a fish with river scene, 4 woodcut illus of trolling and baits, circular bookplate of Alan Jarvis to front paste down bound in mid 19th century full morroco, ornate decorated gilt borders within gilt ruled and blind ruled frames to covers with gilt decorated spine inner rolled tooling. A rare edition of the work that first appeared in 1795, Westwood records an 1813 and an 1816 edition both published by W Mason "The last mentioned edition does not include smelt fishing and other matters" The frontis has the Mason imprint and dated 1816 it differs to that of the 1st edition. There were 2 plates of trolling gear and no text illus. No copies recorded on COPAC of the 1813 or 1816 edition, World Cat locates an 1816 copy at Princeton. Heckscher 475 notes an 1816 copy, Simpson Lot 216 notes a copy with coloured frontis and dated as (1815). Sage notes 2 copies of the 1816 edition one is Westwood's copy.
